Niara Taylor is a young performance artist from the city of Chicago. In addition to acting and singing, Niara has extensive dance experience. She has trained with companies, such as Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Joel Hall Dance Center, Homer Bryant's Chicago Multicultural Dance Center (CMDC), and more. While her training includes ballet, modern, jazz, and West-African dancing, her main style of dancing is Hip Hop. Niara also loves to choreograph.
During the Summer of 2022, Niara worked with Chicago’s Black Ensemble Theater on a program for young adults. In this program, she performed in and collaborated with others on their own adaptation of The Other Cinderella by Jackie Taylor, the founder of this theater. In addition to helping write this adaptation, Niara served as the choreographer for this production.
Niara enjoys writing and had a Journalism and Media internship with the MacArthur Foundation during the summer of 2021. Niara served as an executive board member of University of Maryland, Baltimore County's (UMBC) Black Lives Matter (BLM) club and has done more work with the BLM movement in Chicago. One of her goals is to do performing arts with the mission of advocating for, and partaking in, social and racial justice.
